A falconry experience

We had a lovely morning on Sunday, at a falconry experience that I had purchased for Hubby’s birthday.

Beautiful majestic birds! You got to hold them, and then fly them! The sight of one of these birds actually flying to you and actually landing on your hand is quite an experience.

‘Pickford’ the barn owl

Me and ‘Murk’ the harrier hawk

The falconry expert, Jim was a lovely chap, and had put a lot of thought into how to make this the best experience. He had us all stand in formations that were typical of each different bird’s natural flying and hunting habitat, so for the barn owl, it was a one on one deal:

For the harrier hawk we all stood 4ft apart as though we were trees in a wood, and the hawk swooshed close through everyone to get to its target.

Then we had a demonstration of the blue eagle hunting his prey, which was a radio controlled hilarious little four wheeled bunny rabbit.

Bunny overboard!!

Bunny lost his ears!

Beautiful birds, lovely day! I had no idea how much I would enjoy this experience and would recommend thoroughly.
